Well on my way! June 6, 2011

I threw my first group of mugs using a white stoneware clay from Standard called 181.  For the most part they are large and have a round form because I like a mug to hold a good amount of tea.
The handles are formed by pulling and I let them set up a bit before attaching them to the mugs.  While I am able to pull the handles right off of the mugs, it takes me longer and is more frustrating for me.  I know many potters find it easier to throw the handles right off the pot but I guess it is what you are used to that wins in the end.
I made 15 mugs so I am off to a good start.

Milestones

I have always envied those potters that have a definite style.  Their body of work has the same type of glaze on every piece.  The pots are all made in a way that seems to be all their own.  When you look at their work it is truly a body of work.  I, on the other hand, have a kind of attention deficit.  I like working in different clays with different glazes and different techniques never staying in one place for long.  Well I guess I must just give into my nature and go with it.

That is why for my big birthday this year I decided to make 60 mugs. They will all look different from one another and some will be stoneware and some earthenware but I will love them all equally well.

I have made a start and will be posting some photos soon.

I love cupcakes

I love cupcake. Not so big, not so small, they are perfect size with a cup of tea. And it's a piece of art. It could be a special cake for birthday or anniversary, or...
My project early this year was covered plates for cupcakes. After I enjoyed making those, I looked for a cupcake as a display. One day, I found a papermache cupcake at the craft store but I don't know why... I didn't buy it.
I regretted so much when I came home. And I went back to the store a couple of days later, they were all gone, of course! So, I decided to make cupcakes.

It was fun!
Sugar sprinkles on top, swirls, frost, red velvet, and berries on top, ..........
And I found a cute cupcake stand. I can't stop baking cupcakes!!!
